Are You Home?




“Are You Home?” is a collaboration with Chao Huang that intertwines our personal story with themes of belonging and identity.

During our time in the Netherlands, we noticed significant differences between our social lives here and those back home. As artists from Taiwan and Hong Kong, our experiences have inspired us to reflect on colonial histories, cultural merging, and the ongoing challenges of establishing oneself away from home.

We have developed two fictional characters: farmers from East Asian backgrounds who find themselves at Bierumer School. These characters represent newcomers adapting to their surroundings, echoing the experiences of our ancestors who opened new lands. Through farming activities like seed collecting and land preparation, we explore the nuanced process of settling in.

The project culminates in a video documenting our journey and dialogues as farmers, reflecting on belonging and feeling at home in a new place.
