2026
Installation (wood, retired fishnets, audio device, printed instructions and booklet)
Size variable (2.5m x 2.5m x 3m, 2.5m x 2.5m x 2m)
About the artwork
For Surroundings, Beth draws inspiration from Het Hogeland — a landscape where the sea once swallowed dikes, wierden (artificial dwelling mounds), and stories, and where ancient forms of belief are slowly fading away.
Through an installation of wood and fishing nets, she creates a space where visitors can wander and listen to new narratives, inspired by old folklore. From her perspective as a newcomer, she explores the question: to whom do the stories of a place belong when voices from the past gradually fade away?
Surroundings, part of Soundings, is a multi-year art project in the Groningen Wadden area in and around the municipality of Het Hogeland. From 2026 to 2028, five artworks will be created each year by local artists in collaboration with the municipality and residents of different generations. You can admire this temporary art project in various forms: from installations and performances to workshops and temporary meeting places in the landscape.
In 2026, the artworks can be visited from September 20 to November 15.
Location
In the garden at B&B Batenborg, Schouwerzijlsterweg 13, Wins

Installatie (hout, afgedankte visnetten, audioapparaat, gedrukte instructies en boekje)
Afmetingen variabel (2,5 m x 2,5 m x 3 m, 2,5 m x 2,5 m x 2 m)
